Hon. Prof. Fred Wabwire
Dr. Wabwire-Mangen has over 30 years of conducting research on endemic, emerging and reemerging diseases of public health importance in Uganda including malaria, STIs, HIV/AIDS, influenza and other emerging viral infections. He has demonstrated experience as a senior research scientist in leading and managing multi-disciplinary research teams. He trains African professionals to design and manage programs that treat people with HIV/ AIDS as well as education programs to prevent infection.
He is the Program Director, Health Services Research Program, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Makerere University, School of Public Health 2016 -present; Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Makerere University, School of Public Health 2016-present; Senior Research Scientist and Executive Chair, Makerere University Walter Reed Project 2016-present. He was also the Executive Director, Regional Centre for Quality of Health Care, Makerere University, School of Public Health 2011-2016; Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Makerere University, School of Public Health 2002-2011, Director, Makerere University, Institute of Public Health (autonomous from the Faculty of Medicine) 1998-2003; Head, Institute of Public Health, Makerere University (under the Faculty of Medicine) 1996-1998; Senior Research Scientist, Rakai Health Sciences Program 1994-2010 and a Senior Lecturer; Institute of Public Health, Makerere University 1994-2002.
